Week 3: Action Research Draft
My action research question or inquiry will be:
Will the implementation of a new science lab increase the achievement of students on the science STAAR?
Here is the draft of my Action Plan:

Being a science teacher myself, I am very interested in the outcome of your project. I like that you have added blogging to your project. I don't know why I didn't think of that as a way of disseminating information to my teachers. I'm definitely going to add that as a piece to my action research plan. Looking forward to watching the progress on this project.
ReplyDeleteWe have been emphasizing on Science for the past two years at Lyford CISD. I am very interested in the outcome of your action research project. I am doing my project on the incorporation of hanheld technology devices in the math classroom and i have noticed that we a lot of similiarities. I am looking forward to keeping up with the progress of your project. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you have a clear focus and well thought out steps to complete your research plan. Being a science teacher, I will be interested in seeing the results of your research. Science should be effectively covered in the lower grades to prepare the students for the jr high and high school experiences. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI like your plan. I just hope you get the STAAR data in a timely manner. I like your idea on focus groups. I was going to ask my principal if I can use an inservice day to get some willing participants, Teachers, to come together and discuss the technology issue.
ReplyDeleteI like how you are including the students with surveys in your action plan. The biggest complaint from the students at our school is that science is boring because it does not have any relation to the students interest. I think that you are on the right track by setting up many good channels of communication with all parties involved and that will play a huge part in your plans success. Looks good.
ReplyDeleteThis is great. As a chemistry teacher, I know the importance of making science a priority in the lower grades. If it becomes more of a focus at the primary level they will have a better understanding at the secondary level. What type of lessons or activity do you plan to use in the science lab?
ReplyDeleteI am using the 5E model (engage, explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate) with the students. I do the explore (hands-on activity) in the lab and the home room teachers will do the rest. I provide a folder of ideas and other activities they can do in their own room that is aligned to the science curriculum. I know this will make a difference in alignment, and for the future science classes the students take.
